The 3-M Centre will work on three inter-related research areas, as given below:
Minerals, including minerals processing and metallurgical raw materials preparation;
Metallurgy, covering ferrous metallurgy and non-ferrous metallurgy; and
Materials, focusing on metals and alloys, energy and functional materials.
The Centre has the following general functions:
bring together key researchers/groups/centres in the 3-M areas in Australia and China to collaborate to generate a major impact in 3-M science and technology internationally;
identify new areas of research significant to Australia and China;
share the infrastructure that is available in Australia and China for collaborative research of mutual benefit;
identify infrastructure and other needs to strengthen research;
leverage off and interact with other networks for mutual benefit;
Develop academic, industrial and international linkages of various types;
interact with a wider community to promote not only science and technology but also culture to benefit Australia and China;
Enhance training of postgraduate students and early career researchers through bilateral research collaboration
Become a national resource for the 3-M industries, research and educational institutions, Governments in Australia and China.
